Hanwha Aerospace hosted Poland’s Minister of State Assets, Wojciech Balczun, in South Korea, together with a Polish delegation accompanied by Bartosz Wiśniewski, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Korea. The visit provided an opportunity to review the cooperation to date and discuss its further development, with particular emphasis on the localization of production, technology transfer, and increasing the involvement of Polish industry in ongoing defence programs.
On the Hanwha Aerospace side, the meeting was attended by Jacek Cyrek, President & CEO of Hanwha Aerospace Europe; Kyunghoon Lee, Head of Hanwha Aerospace’s Changwon Plant 3; and Manjung Huh, Head of the LS Business Unit 1.
The discussions focused on the further development of the long-term industrial partnership between Poland and the Republic of Korea. Hanwha Aerospace’s activities in Poland to date were reviewed, along with opportunities to expand cooperation, including technology transfer, localization of production, and the development of joint industrial capabilities. An important part of the discussions also concerned opportunities to leverage the growing cooperation to strengthen export potential and establish a joint presence in international markets.
One of the areas discussed was the potential local production of the K9A2 Self-Propelled Howitzer in Poland under the proposed K9 EC3 program. This would represent another stage in the development of cooperation related to the K9 family of systems and further increase the participation of Polish industry in the program.
The discussions also covered opportunities to expand cooperation in the field of rocket systems and MCS modular charge systems for 155 mm artillery ammunition. These areas are part of Hanwha Aerospace’s broader approach to developing long-term industrial and technological capabilities in Poland in cooperation with local partners.
As part of the visit, the Polish delegation also toured the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer production line at Hanwha Aerospace’s facilities. The delegation had an opportunity to see firsthand the company’s manufacturing and technological capabilities, as well as the solutions applied in the production of one of the key artillery systems currently in service with the Polish Armed Forces. The delegation also had the opportunity to experience a ride aboard the K9.
Poland is one of our key long-term industrial partners. Hanwha Aerospace is consistently developing a model of cooperation based not only on the delivery of advanced defence systems, but also on localization, technology transfer, and the increasing involvement of Polish industry.
Hanwha Aerospace’s objective is to further strengthen this partnership in a way that supports both the development of Poland’s defence capabilities and the competitiveness of its domestic defence industry, while also building joint capabilities that can be leveraged in international markets in the future.
