The next stages of framework agreements for the supply of Hanwha Aerospace’s self-propelled howitzers K9 and the localized WWR K239 Chunmoo variant, known in Poland as Homar-K, have come into effect. This marks the beginning of the second implementation agreements, which include:
The delivery of 152 K9 self-propelled howitzers by Hanwha Aerospace, including 6 in the K9A1 variant and 146 in the K9PL variant. The K9PL features unified equipment compatible with systems already used by the Polish Armed Forces and produced in Poland. The agreement also covers the delivery of 155mm caliber ammunition and the transfer of know-how to the Polish industry, enabling the servicing of howitzers and the production of spare parts in Poland. A key aspect is the capability to produce modular charge systems (MCS), which are crucial for the 155mm ammunition system. The delivery of K9PL units is scheduled for 2026–2027.
The delivery of an additional 72 Chunmoo launchers to Poland. The agreement also includes rocket missiles CGR-080 with a caliber of 239mm and a range of 80 km, as well as CTM-290 short-range ballistic missiles with a range of 290 km. The production of launchers will be localized within the Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), with the capability to service launcher modules and produce spare parts in Poland. The agreement also includes the provision of logistics and training packages, as well as the integration of the Homar-K system with Polish unguided rockets with a caliber of 122mm. Additionally, it provides for the production of 122mm rocket containers for the Homar-K launchers at PGZ.
“The unwavering implementation of the framework agreements is a testament to mutual trust and strong partnership between our nations. We look forward to further joint efforts with the Polish defense industry, both state-owned and private. We firmly believe that deepening this collaboration will significantly contribute to enhancing Poland’s economic and defense potential, as the country plays a key role in protecting NATO’s eastern flank,” said Boo Hwan Lee, President of Hanwha Aerospace Europe.
He added: “We are delighted to receive numerous positive opinions during training sessions, deliveries, and visits to military units from Polish soldiers using the SPH K9 and Homar-K systems. The Polish Armed Forces impress with their professionalism and ability to quickly adapt to the most advanced artillery solutions.”
